How to draw the waves? Let's disassemble it!

Hi, cutie, I am Comic black rainbow!!!

A cutie asked me how to draw waves or ripples on Facebook because this information is not easy to find on the Internet.

In fact, there are too many types of water, if I explain the various forms of water painting in-depth, I can do a few hours of course.

So today I will do a tutorial for these two parts.

After explaining the structure, whether you want to draw illustrations or comics in the future, you will be more familiar with the part of drawing the waves!

If it is inconvenient to read the article, you can directly watch the explanation of the Youtube video!

First of all, we can look at the above picture first. Because the waves are undulating, so when the light comes from a direction, there must be a light-facing side and a backlit side, while the light-facing side is bright and the backlit side is dark. Everyone understands it. So when waves are in front of us, irregular bright and dark sides will appear. If you want a more realistic or comic style feeling, you can use lines to draw like the upper right corner of the picture above. There are horizontal waves in the sea, but white is retained to show the reflective part, which is relatively simple to draw the water ripples.

For the part of the waves, I disassembled the waves into five pictures, so you will understand why I draw like this. In the picture, the part of picture 1 shows the state of the sea wave rising. At this time, because the sea wave has not yet rolled up and envelops the air, you can see that there is no white foam at the tip of the wave. Picture 2 is the wave reaching its highest point, prepare to roll up and hit down, there is some foam at the tip of the wave. Picture 3 shows the state of the wave from the highest point to the sea level, the foam becomes more here. From these three pictures, you can see the dynamic of the waves.

Then picture 4 shows the state of the wave hit. At this time, when the wave hits the sea level or the beach, there will be a rebound. A large amount of foam or seawater will splash up at this time, so we will see the white foam is sprayed up. Picture 5 shows that before the next wave hits, the water of the previous wave will be sucked by the next wave a little bit, so the tide is like receding toward the sea.

In addition to watching the dynamic structure of the waves, you also saw how I used pencil sketch lines to draw the waves. In fact, the important part is that when the waves roll up, I draw lines in the direction of the water. The outside of the waves will also draw lines along the direction of the water flow. While the foam and the reflective parts of the seawater are left blank. At this time, the viewer is easily guided by the direction in which you draw the lines and the part you leave blank, then make the picture you draw concrete and connect it to what you drew like waves!

In fact, the part of painting natural scenery is usually processed by using a large area, just like the part of water ripples. It's impossible we can't paint one by one water ripples, just like drawing a tree, it is impossible to paint every single leaf. So using the concept of a large area to draw is not only efficient but also consistent in the picture! I am happy that you can finish reading this article and hope it helps you! If you have any questions, please feel free to use the message below to reply, social media, or mail to communicate with me! Of course, the most important thing is that after learning, you must take a piece of paper and a pen to draw by yourself, in order to really learn it!
